Chinese diaspora artist Shan Weijun graduated from Wuxi Institute of Light Industry (now Jiangnan University) in Jiangsu Province in 1987. He moved to Paris in 1991, where he studied plastic arts at the University of Paris, graduating in 1993. In 2001, he established a studio in Saint Maur-des-Fossés, a suburb of Paris, to pursue his career as a professional French painter. Shan places great importance on the purity of expression in his work, skilfully using traditional Chinese painting tools—rice paper, brush, and ink—to meticulously trace on the paper. The accumulation of different shades of lightly applied ink creates rich, subtle suburban and rural landscapes.
In 2017, the French Cultural Embassy in Shanghai organized a solo exhibition for him. Over the years, he has participated in various group exhibitions at notable venues, including the China-Expo Capital Forum Exhibition in Shanghai; Grand Palais Art Contemporain; Centre Social et Culturel G. Brassens; and the Yerres Library Association in Paris. In 2024, Shan also took part in a Zen-themed joint exhibition in Shanghai.
In 2018, Alisan Fine Arts organized his solo exhibition Shan Weijun: Between Light and Shade as part of the France May Arts Festival, and showcased his works in group exhibition and various art fairs, including those in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
His works are in the collection of Cernuschi Museum, Paris, France.
