Yau Wing-fung

born 1990 Hong Kong
Yau Wing-fung received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the Fine Arts department of Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2022, he gained the Liu Kuo-sung Ink Art Award, and in 2024, he was selected for Cathay Pacific Airways “Gallery in the Skies” project. He is currently an assistant professor in the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University. Yau concentrates on research and creation of "Ink Art" and focuses on transformation of visual experience, imagination and situationality. His works merge the spatial aesthetics of ink with contemporary visual experience and attempt to expand the spatial imagination of previous ink works. Yau also pays attention to the potential interconnectedness of the contents of the frame, the way of viewing and the external form; therefore, Yau has deliberately adopted three-dimensional or installation formats to construct spatial and temporal scenarios outside of two-dimensional ink.

His solo exhibitions were held in New York and Hong Kong in recent years, including a lansscape installation exhibited at Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Artist Dialogue Series: Yau Wing-fung To and Fro and Mirage Harmony in 2024. His artworks have also been exhibited in major exhibitions worldwide, such as Wu Bin: Ten Views of a Lingbi Stone, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, USA, 2018; A New Era of Ink Painting in Hong Kong: 1st Chinese Cultural Festival, Hong Kong, 2024; 10th Beijing International Art Biennale: International Contemporary Ink Art Special Exhibition, 2025-2026 (until Jan 28), as well as at art fairs including Art Basel Hong Kong, Fine Art Asia, and Art Taipei.

POP ROCK in 2021 is Alisan Fine Arts’ first collaboration with the artist. In 2026, Alisan included his landscape paintings at ART SG 2026, marking the artist's debut at the art fair.

His artworks have been garnered by Los Angeles County Museum of Art, USA; Hong Kong Museum of Art; M+, Hong Kong; United Overseas Bank, Hong Kong; Landmark Hong Kong; Cathay Pacific Airline; and other organizations and private collections.
