Chui Pui-chee is an outstanding young calligrapher under the tutelage of modern calligraphy masters Wang Dongling and Jat See-Yeu (1935-2009). Chui is proficient in various calligraphic styles, and his works are imbued with a sense of dynamism and powerful qualities that reflect the modern urban culture. Chui received his BA from the CUHK Fine Arts Department and MA and PhD from the Calligraphy Department at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Over the years, Chui has been a recipient of the Award for Young Artist (Visual Art) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards, and the Young Artist Award at the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards, and a three-time finalist of The Sovereign Asian Art Prize.

Chui has held nearly sixty solo and group exhibitions to date, including at V&A Museum, London; Art Museum of China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, and Hong Kong Museum of Art. He also conducted a calligraphy workshop for the Asia Society Hong Kong. Word Play in 2024 is the gallery’s first collaboration with the artist.

His works are in the collection of Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, UK; Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong.
