Born in 1977 in Heze, Shandong, Hao Shiming attempts to extract line, which is the purest element, from traditional ink painting and thus transform and reconstruct it. Line is the most crucial element in his artistic philosophy. The lines in his landscape paintings are neither straight nor intended to render perspective but interweaved and undulated like writhing snakes, expressing a powerful leaping rhythm and the spirit of traditional ink art.
Hao graduated from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 2000 and received an MA from Capital Normal University in Beijing in 2014. His works have been exhibited in over 80 solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including in the USA, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Australia, Korea, Singapore, China, and Hong Kong. Major solo exhibitions were held at Asia Society Paris, France, 2022; and Hubei Academy of Fine Arts Museum, Wuhan, China, 2019. From 2025-2026 Jan, Hao's work was on view at The 10th China Beijing International Art Biennial, and in July 2026, displays at One-Way Ticket: Reader·Art Supreme - China Contemporary Transcendental Art Nomination Exhibition, Northwest Book City in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China.
Alisan Fine Arts has been working with Hao since 2016, and has exhibited his paintings at several group exhibitions including Word Play in 2024; as well as at several art fairs Art Basel Hong Kong, Fine Art Asia, Hong Kong; and ART SG in Singapore.
His works are collected by art museums and institutions throughout China, including National Art Museum of China, Beijing; Shandong Art Museum, Jinan; Hubei Museum of Art; Wuhan Art Museum, Wuhan; Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou; and Louis Vuitton Shanghai.
